Meet our New MD - Adam Jones

Just a few weeks ago, Adam Jones, joined the team in the newly created role of Managing Director for Carlton Forest 3PL. It’s fair to say it’s been a busy time, but he managed to find five minutes to introduce himself, explain why he joined the team and what the future holds…
Q: What is your role at Carlton Forest 3PL?
A: Managing Director
Q: What drew you to Carlton Forest 3PL as a company?
A: Carlton Forest has been on an exciting growth journey and the potential of the business is huge, however more than that was the culture and people that work for the business – when I walked round the business, the passion, enthusiasm, and loyalty was plain to see.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about the job?
A: Spending time with the people that work for the business. I get most enjoyment from interacting with the people that do the hard work and seeing how I can support them and make their lives easier, but also how we can make Carlton Forest an even better place to work.
Q: What does Carlton Forest 3PL do?
A: Carlton Forest 3PL is more than a typical third-party warehousing and logistics provider, I would actually say we are a solutions company. We deal with a variety of customers that come to us with all sorts of short, medium and long terms issues and we design and implement specific solutions to fit their different needs. This can range from food companies (we are BRC AA accredited), packaging, glass and other fragile handling, ecommerce, big and bulky items like sofas and transport requirements including full loads, part loads and pallet network solutions.
Q: What are you most excited about right now?
A: There are LOTS of exciting things happening but especially our three new sites that will open in a 7-week period and take us to 1,000,000 sq ft capacity! However, I would say the most exciting project we have at the moment is our people development. We have just launched our new company bonus structure where everyone in the business will benefit, a first for CFG, and our training and development programme that will start to look at individual needs and requirements and how we can help them develop as employees, but also as people… I can’t wait to see some of the results of this!
Q: If money were no object, what would you do with your life?
A: Natural response would be to live abroad in the sun… but I would only get bored, so I would say buy a small football club and run that as a hobby!
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I really enjoy going walking with my girlfriend and dog at weekends. Nothing better than having no phones, sunny day, a slight chill in the air and a muddy dog!
Q: What’s the last picture you took on your phone?
A: Just checking I can answer this safely…… actually it was a picture of our new warehouse in Bawtry Park which is geeky I know! After that it is a screen shot of a famous quote from Steve Jobs (Apple Founder) “If you want to make everyone happy, don’t be a leader. Sell Ice Cream.” This helps me when I have to make some tough decisions that sometimes not everyone is going to like!
Q: What’s your favourite word?
Q: What problem do you wish you could solve?
A: Mental Health
Q: What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned recently?
A: IT/systems – What a different language this is and how important it is to any business. We are just upgrading our Warehouse Management System (WMS) and helping lead this is tough, but also so rewarding in seeing some of the great functionality we are going to bring to the business and for our customers.
Q: Whom in the world would you most like to share a meal with?
A: Ex Pepsi Co CEO Indra Nooyi… this woman is amazing! Sleeps about 4 hours a day, plays tennis, has a family, runs one of the biggest and successful businesses in the world and is such an inspiring woman! I’m not sure she would have time to fit me in whilst doing all that though!
